An early own goal from Jeremy Toulalan saw Rennes edge out Bordeaux 1-0 and climb away from the foot of Ligue 1.

The hosts began the night just two points clear of the relegation zone but got a helping hand 11 minutes into the match when Toulalan dove to try to turn Wahbi Khazri's free-kick from the left wing behind, but instead diverted it past his own goalkeeper at the near post.

Bordeaux made two changes at the break in a sign of coach Jocelyn Gourvennec's frustration with their first-half display but created few chances to level, with Alexandre Mendy missing one of the best of them when he blazed over from close range.
