Brazilian defender to be rewarded with fresh terms

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that the club are to offer fresh terms to defensive ace Cris. The commanding Brazilian centre-half has spent the last six years at Stade Gerland, making over 200 appearances. Despite now being 33 years old he remains an integral part of the Lyon set-up and is showing no signs of slowing down. Aulas is understandably keen to keep a player of such pedigree at the club and is confident Cris will soon put pen-to-paper on a new deal. He said: "Cris is going to, I hope, sign a new contract. We are going to offer him an extension of at least a year-and-a-half, maybe two. "He will stay with us, I am sure. He still has a year (of his current deal) to run. He is the symbol of our strength, ambition and professionalism.

Positive

"There will be a certain amount of discussion about the financial and performance elements to determine the length of his contract. "The result will be positive. No other club in Europe can offer him what he has at Lyon today." Meanwhile, Aulas has also revealed that Lyon are prepared to bide their time in the pursuit of new recruits, with an approach for France international Yoann Gourcuff recently knocked back by Bordeaux. "For the moment, we are sticking with what Bordeaux have said," he added. "Everybody's questions should be answered in August."
