Lyon kick off their 2010/11 UEFA Champions League adventure against Schalke at Stade de Gerland, live on Sky Sports via the Red Button. Ligue 1 side Lyon are competing in Europe's premier competition for the 11th campaign in a row after they finished as runners-up in France last term. Claude Puel will be eager for his charges to begin with a home success, with the club having reached the knockout stages in each of the last seven seasons. Indeed, in 2009/10, Lyon reached the last four of the competition, but departed against German opponents Bayern Munich.

Poor start

The French outfit have endured a disappointing start to their domestic campaign, managing just one win in their opening five matches. With regards to team news, Aly Cissokho, Cris, Cesar Delgado and Ederson have all been sidelined by thigh injuries this term. However, Michel Bastos and Alexandre Lacazette, who have also been suffering from similar problems, have been named in Lyon's 19-man squad. Schalke have endured an even poorer start in Germany, losing their first three matches and they currently sit second from bottom in the standings.
Out-of-form
Head coach Felix Magath will therefore be hopeful that his men can resolve their form when they take part on the European stage. But Schalke have lost all of their last three Champions League games and have won only one of their last nine fixtures in the competition. Long-term absentees Tim Hoogland, Levan Kenia and Christian Pander are not even included on Schalke's Champions League squad list while Mario Gavranovic (knee) is also missing.
