Bordeaux have moved to snap up the right-back from Fluminese and are expecting him to arrive in Europe on Friday.
He will then train with his new team-mates during the winter break, before finding himself in a position to make his Ligue 1 bow in the New Year.
The 25-year-old admits he has some reservations about leaving his homeland, but is confident he can adapt to life in a new country after seeking advice from fellow countrymen who have also turned out in French football.
"I am scared about the cold in Europe," Mariano said in
L'Equipe.

"I don't know how I will react to that.
"But I have had two good years with Fluminese and I have faith in my ability.
"I don't know how long I will need to adapt. I am a little anxious, but also very happy to be going there.
"Henrique told me Bordeaux is a peaceful club with players that will only try to help you. He also told me about the club, the town and the fans.
"Fred told me that the game in Ligue 1 is very fast and that the forwards, especially the African ones, are very powerful."
