Former French international among favourites for managerial post with Serie A club
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is in talks with Marseille coach Didier Deschamps about a managerial role with the club.
The Serie A side are expected to replace Vincenzo Montella, who was appointed as head coach in February this year after managing the youth team.
And while hoping to welcome Deschamps to Stadio Olimpico, Sabatini insists the former French international is already eager to make the move to the Eternal City.
Sabatini told L'Equipe: "I will certainly meet with Didier Deschamps soon. We have already spoken several times on the phone.
"There is already a willingness to come to Rome. Deschamps would be a good choice."
Confidence
But despite the pair being set to meet, Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier expressed his confidence that Deschamps would remain at the Stade Velodrome next season.
Dassier told www.om.net: "He plays around with reporters, but for me there is no shadow of a doubt - he will be the coach of Olympique Marseille next season.
"I think the rumours in the press have become a bit of a campaign to destabilise. This was not innocent.
"Didier loves OM and the city, but is also a great professional. I remain convinced that he will be with us, and we will confirm in the next few days.
"I think it's more a form of appeal on his part. Maybe he wants to be told we love him. Well I say 'Didier, yes, we love you, and we would like you to stay.'"
But Dassier's assertion may be insignificant for Deschamps, with Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique another name thought to be among the favourites for the post.
And the former Barca and Spain midfielder, while relishing the prospect, is aware that if offered the role he must carefully consider before making a decision.
The 41-year-old said: "I have had contact with the Roma directors. It's an attractive proposal.
"I know that they have several options at their disposal, as have I. Before making a decision, I must carefully ponder every aspect."
