Malian midfielder makes French move
Ligue 1 outfit Rennes have swooped to secure the signature of Malian starlet Cheick Fantamady Diarra.
The 18-year-old midfielder moves to France from Stade Malien de Bamako to link up with Rennes coach Pierre Dreossi's side.
The highly-rated playmaker was discovered by Rennes scouts during the Caf U20 African Championship held in South Africa last year.
The club confirmed that they have completed a move for Diarra on their
official website on Thursday.
Illustrious
Diarra is a graduate of the famed Centre Salif Keita in Mali and will be hoping to follow in some illustrious footsteps.
The likes of Barcelona's Seydou Keita and former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra have emerged through the same youth system in recent years.
Diarra is now taking his first tentative steps in European football and will hope to be given plenty of opportunity to shine in 2011/12.
He was recently called up to the Mali senior squad by coach Alain Giresse, but is currently readying himself for international duty at the U20 World Cup which kicks off in Colombia on 29th July.
