Zoumana Camara admits he came close to leaving Paris St Germain before being talked into signing a new contract by Leonardo.

Defender delighted to be a part of PSG's ambitious plans

Zoumana Camara admits he came close to leaving Paris St Germain before being talked into signing a new contract by Leonardo. The 32-year-old defender was all set to take on a new challenge over the summer after finding himself slipping down the pecking order. The former Leeds United loanee is, however, now prepared to accept a supporting role at Parc des Princes and play his part in the collective effort. With the club's Qatari owners keen to lead PSG into an exciting future, Camara has committed himself to the club until 2013. He did not need much persuading to pen fresh terms, but admits a one-to-one with sporting director Leonardo helped to convince him that he was making the right choice. "Last summer my future in Paris was in doubt," Camara told L'Equipe.

Future

"Then, one day I had a talk with Leo. That talk changed my future. "He asked me: 'Do you want to be part of the new PSG?' I replied, 'yes'. He said: 'Consider yourself part of it'. "He backed up his words with a one-year extension to my contract. "We are experiencing an exciting moment in the club's history and I want to be part of that. "The most important thing is that we reach our targets together. I would rather play 25 matches and win titles than play 50 matches and win nothing."
