Argentine full-back reluctant to walk out on Nice's basement battle

Nice full-back Fabian Monzon has confessed to being a fan of the Premier League, but says he will not walk out in the middle of a relegation battle. The Argentine defender arrived in France over the summer, with Boca Juniors having allowed him to move on. The 24-year-old returned to Europe determined to prove a point after a forgettable loan spell at Real Betis in 2008/09 left him frustrated. Monzon has shone in Ligue 1 and is now being tipped for the very top. Rumours claim he could be on the move in January, with a number of sides from across Europe reported to be keen.

Settled

Teams in England are among those said to have expressed an interest and Monzon has hinted that he could make such a switch in the future. He is, however, reluctant to walk out on Nice as they scrap for their Ligue 1 lives. "I have always loved English football," he told L'Equipe. "But I am fine at Nice and I would like to help them avoid relegation." Arsenal and Schalke are the clubs reported to be leading the chase for Monzon's signature heading into the January transfer window.
