Alaves continued their upturn in fortunes under new boss Abelardo Fernandez to beat struggling Las Palmas 2-0 at Estadio Mendizorrotza and leapfrog them in the La Liga table.

The hosts came into Friday night's match looking for a second successive league win after coming from behind to defeat Girona in Abelardo's first match in charge, which put them a point ahead of bottom club Malaga.

Las Palmas, meanwhile, had recorded a first La Liga win in 10 matches when defeating Real Betis 1-0 last weekend.

Alaves went ahead in the 23rd minute as Ibai Gomez netted the rebound after Alfonso Pedraza's low 20-yard effort had been saved.

On-loan Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi doubled the lead 10 minutes into the second half when he stabbed the ball in at the near post.
