Goal 1 - v Albacete (May 1, 2005)

Messi's first goal for Barcelona came against Albacete two months before his 18th birthday in May 2005. It was a stylish way to open his account, latching onto Ronaldinho's scooped pass before chipping a clever finish over the advancing goalkeeper and celebrating wildly with his team-mates.

Goal 2 - v Valencia (March 14, 2010)

Messi ended the 2009/10 campaign with a La Liga and a Champions League title to his name and one of the more magical of his 34 goals that season came against Valencia. Picking the ball up about 30 yards out, he went onto skip past three defenders with breathtaking ball control and speed before curling the ball home from close range.

Goal 3 - v Zaragoza (March 21, 2010)

"You're just lost for words - he's just brilliant," said commentator Rob Palmer after this majestic Messi solo effort drew Barcelona level against Zaragoza. Winning the ball back near the half-way line, there didn't look much on as Messi set sail for the Zaragoza goal. But an incredible drop of the shoulder and swivel away from a defender opened up his path. From there he beat another two defenders and slotted the ball into the far corner.

Goal 4 - v Real Sociedad (December 12, 2010)

This goal was another work of art and epitomised what the Barcelona team under Pep Guardiola were all about. You would be hard pushed to find a better example of 'pass and move' football. Almost from the kick-off, the Argentine exchanged four one-two's with Dani Alves down the right flank to completely open up the Sociedad defence and finished off the move in typical Messi style.

Goal 5 - v Real Madrid (October 7, 2012)

Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continued their remarkable goal scoring duel in this memorable El Clasico encounter that ended 2-2 with the two superstars each bagging a double. Messi looked to have given his team victory with this sensational free-kick from 25-yards but Ronaldo equalised late on.
