Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu will be out of action for around three weeks with a calf injury, the club have confirmed.
Mathieu was taken off as a second-string Barcelona side beat Espanyol 1-0 in the Catalan Super Cup on Tuesday.
The La Liga champions released a statement on their website on Wednesday stating the injury is worse than expected.
"Tests conducted by the medical services on Wednesday Morning have revealed that Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has injured the soleus in his right foot," the statement read.
"It means he's going to be sidelined for an estimated three weeks."
Luis Enrique is left with a shortage of defenders, with Mathieu joining Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba on the sidelines. Alba and Pique were ruled out after last week's 4-0 Champions League win over Manchester City.
Barcelona, who are currently third in La Liga with 19 points, face Granada on Sunday.
