Riquelme to repay Barca
The former Boca Juniors ace arrived in a blaze of glory from South America in 2002, however the billing failed to match the hype.
Instead the playmaker failed to perform consistently in what proved an extremely below-par campaign for the Spanish giants.
"I know very well what it means to play in one of the most important teams in the world," said Riquelme.
"I have been treated very well here by my team-mates and by the supporters so I feel that I owe them something.
"This year would have been better for me if Barcelona would have won a title, but the team hasn't played well so it has been a bad year."
Riquelme was quick to deny that he is unsettled in Catalunya, and that he settled into the region very well following last summer's move.
"Some people wanted to make me feel bad and said things about my way of living that aren't true, but I feel fine in Barcelona," added Riquelme.
"The club and the city are fantastic and I've adapted very well to this place.
"I am sure that in the next season everyone is going to be able to see a good Riquelme in each match and that I am going to help Barcelona to win something."
