Barcelona have announced that coach Pep Guardiola is to pen a contract extension on Wednesday.

Coach to sign on for another 12 months at Camp Nou

Barcelona have announced that coach Pep Guardiola is to pen a contract extension on Wednesday. The highly-rated boss will sign on for another 12 months at Camp Nou, taking him through to the summer of 2012. Guardiola was initially due to finalise the agreement on Tuesday, but a deal has been pushed back by 24 hours. A statement released on Barcelona's official website read: "For reasons of agenda, the signing of Josep Guardiola's contract renewal, scheduled for this Tuesday, February 22, will finally take place on Wednesday, February 23, after first-team training, around 1300, in the club offices. "The coach of Barcelona will sign for one more season, until June 30, 2012, as announced on February 8."

Success

Guardiola inherited the Barca reins from Frank Rijkaard in 2008 and has enjoyed remarkable success during his tenure. He has led the Catalan giants to eight titles, including two Primera Liga crowns and the 2009 UEFA Champions League. That impressive haul could be added to this season, with Barca currently five points clear at the summit of the Spanish top flight, through to the final of the Copa del Rey and hoping to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions League.
