LUIS FIGO LEADS REAL PARTY
A superior head-to-head record over nearest challengers Deportivo La Coruna meant that Real's 5-0 decimation of Alaves handed them the title, and sparked massive celebration in Madrid.
Luis Figo, whose defection from Barcelona to Real provided a huge boost last summer, admitted he was absolutely delighted with his year, and hoped that the side could go on to European glory next season.
"We reached our aim and of course it has triggered wild happiness," stated the Portuguese winger.
"This year several bad things have happened to me but this day has helped me get over all of them.
"I have nothing to say about Barca. Our season at Real has been wonderful."
Coach Vicente del Bosque was equally delighted, in his own understated way, saying: "It's a moment of great satisfaction.
"I'm lucky to have this group of fantastic players."
