Beckenbauer blasts Ronaldo

GERMAN legend Franz Beckenbauer has slammed Brazil striker Ronaldo for his performance in Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund.

'Der Kaiser' feels the former European Footballer of the Year is not in the best shape, and looked out of sorts during the European champions' narrow victory.

"The game was an entertaining affair, especially in the first half, and I was really impressed, but Ronaldo was disappointing," declared Beckenbauer.

"He might have scored the winner, but, apart from that, he only stood around the whole time."

The World Cup winner was replaced by Guti with 16 minutes remaining and Beckenbauer felt that Real did not miss his presence at all.

"When (Zinedine) Zidane left the pitch, Real lost their rhythm, but, when Ronaldo went off, they appeared almost stronger without him.

"To me he looks as if he has three or four kilograms too much and with a bit less (weight), he'd surely be quicker and more active," Beckenbauer told German TV station Premiere.
