Hierro moves to Qatar

QATAR'S Al Rayyan have confirmed Spanish legend Fernando Hierro will join the club on a one-year deal.

The 35-year-old defender was released by Real Madrid at the end of last season after guiding them to their sixth Primera Liga title.

Hierro agreed terms with Al Rayyan officials in Doha on Wednesday after previously revealing he would retire if he could not secure a move to the Middle East.

The former Spain and Real captain will become the club's third high-profile player, after former German international Mario Basler and ex-Manchester City midfielder Ali Benarbia.
