Legendary striker to be honoured at 'farewell ceremony'
Real Madrid have announced that they are to hold a 'farewell ceremony' for Raul on Monday.
The Spaniards are keen to see the departing legend off in style and will host a special leaving party at Santiago Bernabeu in his honour.
Raul is set to leave the capital giants after 18 years of loyal service, during which time he has become the club's all-time leading goalscorer.
He made his senior debut way back in 1994 and has gone on to become a global icon, for both club and country.
The 33-year-old has, however, seen first-team opportunities dwindle over recent years, with his involvement often restricted to life on the bench.
Iconic
That has persuaded him that the time has come to move on and Real are prepared to bow to his wishes.
It is widely expected that Raul will now complete a move to German outfit Schalke, who have been chasing his signature for some time.
Real will now begin the 2010/11 campaign without two of their most iconic stars.
The announcement of Raul's impending exit comes just 24 hours after it was revealed that seasoned midfielder Guti is to leave the club for pastures new.
