Jose Mourinho hopes Real Madrid do not have to go on with Karim Benzema as their only recognised forward.
Mourinho concerned by lack of options
Jose Mourinho has admitted it will be difficult if Real Madrid have to go through the rest of the season with Karim Benzema as their only fit recognised striker.
Gonzalo Higuain is currently sidelined with a back problem that could require surgery, with Real still to decide on the best course of action.
Reports suggest the Argentine could be out for a couple of months, leaving Benzema as their main frontman until at least the start of January.
Higuain's injury has fuelled speculation that Mourinho will look to bring in fresh faces, although it is director general Jorge Valdano that would have to give the green light for any transfer activity.
"Signing players is not an issue for me to deal with but I already said at the beginning of the season it would be difficult with only Benzema and Higuain," Mourinho told reporters.
"If I have to go through the rest of the season only with Benzema it will be much more difficult.
"But this is something you have to ask the director general and he can tell you the club's position."
Kaka boost
Mourinho should at least be boosted by the return from injury of Brazilian playmaker Kaka in the New Year.
The 28-year-old has not played at all this season following a knee operation but has been making good progress in his rehabilitation.
"(There has been) good work from the medical department ... spectacular work from Kaka himself, which is the most important," said Mourinho.
"We are waiting and I think that when we come back from Christmas I hope to have Kaka training with the team again."
