Spanish giants go for City man

Real Madrid are pushing ahead with their bid to sign Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor on loan. Jose Mourinho has expressed his wish for a new striker in the January transfer window, but Real's bid for former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been rejected by Hamburg. The Dutchman has voiced his displeasure at being refused a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu but that looks to have firmly opened the door for the Togolese star. Skysports.com understands that City are only willing to let one more striker leave the club this January, after already loaning Roque Santa Cruz to Blackburn. Jo has been linked with a number of moves, but Roberto Mancini would rather see the Togolese striker moved on, and that now looks the most likely scenario. Monaco had been leading the chase for Adebayor, but Real were always on the radar and now they are set push ahead with a deal.

Real had also been linked with Spurs' Roman Pavlyuchenko and a possible swap with Lassana Diarra was mooted, but the Spanish giants are happy for a loan deal and Adebayor fits the bill. Reports in Spain suggest that Real are happier with a loan as they already have their summer targets in mind with a raid on their closest neighbours Atletico Madrid on the agenda. Madrid sources claim that Atletico are resigned to losing Sergio Aguero to Real, who are ready to pay his buy-out clause of over £40million. Real are also rumoured to be looking at Fernando Llorente at Athletic Bilbao - but would only move for him if Karim Benzema moved on.
