Midfielder vows to fight for Real place

Esteban Granero says he wants to stay at Real Madrid and fight for his place under manager Jose Mourinho. The 23-year-old Granero made just nine starts in all competitions last season and was linked with a summer exit, but the midfielder claims he has no intention of leaving the Santiago Bernabeu. Granero came through the youth ranks at Real and rejoined the club in the summer of 2009 with Madrid paying neighbours Getafe €4million for his services. "I am staying put and I have a lot of faith in my possibilities at Madrid," Granero told Marca. "I have two more years left on my contract and the confidence of the club and the coach. "(Jose) Mourinho has made me a better player and I appreciate that. He is a coach that gets the best out of his footballers and makes them better. "I hope the project of the coach lasts a long time because it is going to be something great. We are sure that we will be better next season and the gap between us and Barcelona isn't as big as some people claim it is."
