Portuguese boss pleased with last-16 qualification
Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has described forward Cristiano Ronaldo's achievement of scoring 100 goals for the club as "incredible".
The 26-year-old netted both goals in Madrid's 2-0 victory over Lyon in France in their UEFA Champions League Group D clash on Wednesday to secure qualification to the last 16.
Ronaldo's second goal, which came from the penalty spot on 69 minutes at Stade de Gerland, was his 100th for Madrid, leading his coach to shower him with praise.
"It is an incredible record," the Portuguese told
Sky Sports. "To score 100 goals for Real is tremendous, especially scoring two goals here in Lyon where we have a negative record historically."
However, the 48-year-old was quick to shift focus to the fact that Madrid secured their berth in the knock-out stage with four successive wins in the group by defeating Lyon.
"We look for team results and not for individual [records]," said Mourinho. "The most important thing was to get three points, play well and reach the next stage."
No change
Last season, the Spanish giants reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in what was Mourinho's first term at the Santiago Bernabeu and are once again one of the favourites to win the competition this time around.
When asked if this season there is a different feel to Madrid, Mourinho remarked: "In relation to the Champions League, I think that we are doing exactly what we did last season.
"Last season we had five victories and one draw in the group phase. We had a very good Champions League [campaign] until we got a semi-final [tie against Barcelona] in which it was impossible to do better.
"But we try to improve all the time and I think the team is improving this season as well."
