Portugal defender Pepe has handed his country a boost by returning to training ahead of their quarter-final with the Czech Republic. The two sides will meet on Thursday and coach Paulo Bento will want his team to be at full strength for that crunch encounter. Pepe, 29, had missed the previous day's session because of the sore ankles that were afflicting him. But the Real Madrid defender was examined by the Portuguese medical staff on Monday and has now been cleared to resume training. This news will be a fillip for Bento because the imposing defender is dominant in both penalty areas. He scored against Denmark in Portugal's 3-2 win last Wednesday and was a colossal presence at the heart of the Real defence that won the Primera Liga title last term.
