Al Wasl interest shrugged off by Uruguayan striker

Uruguayan star Diego Forlan insists he is not set to leave Atletico Madrid over the summer. Last week Al Wasl claimed they were close to completing a deal to sign the striker, with the ambitious Dubai-based club hoping to secure Forlan's services on a one-year loan deal. After appointing Diego Maradona as their new coach earlier this month, Al Wasl had targeted a big-name signing and claimed Forlan had expressed a desire to make the move. The 32-year-old hitman scored 28 goals last season before winning the Golden Ball at last year's World Cup. This term he scored just 10, however, and was dropped towards the end of the campaign, prompting speculation he could leave Atletico. But the former Villarreal and Manchester United man, who is under contract until the summer of 2013, is adamant he is not looking to leave Spain and that no bid is on the table. "I insist that I want to continue with this club although every day I am linked with a new club," he told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador.

"The day I was in Sweden for a publicity event, some papers said that I had travelled to sign in Dubai. "My situation is rare because the media says I'm not interested in staying with the club but I've said that those stories are not true. "At the moment I have not received any offer. I still have two seasons (with Atletico) and I am very content there. "I will only leave Atletico Madrid if an offer is received which is too tempting for all parties."
