La Liga round-up

Valencia missed the chance to go top of La Liga after a 2-0 defeat to Sevilla.

The Che had looked to jump from seventh to the summit, but they missed out as Sevilla sealed their third straight league victory - a win which takes them above Valencia into eighth.

The visitors went ahead after 20 minutes at La Mestalla when Brazilian international Luis Fabiano (pictured) netted.

The second arrived just after the break when veteran defender Roberto Ayala put through his own net.

Real Sociedad climbed into fifth thanks to their comfortable 3-0 win over Getafe.

The Basque outfit prevented Getafe from climbing back to the top of La Liga after an unexpected one sided affair at Anoeta.

Mikel Aranburu opened the scoring as early as the third minute and not long later Turkish ace Nihat Kahveci doubled their advantage.

The win was sealed just before the break when Xabier Prieto fired from the penalty spot.

Atletico Madrid leapfrogged Cadiz into 11th after a straightforward 3-0 victory.

Maxi Rodriguez opened the scoring, before second half goals from Pablo Ibanez (64) and Luciano Galletti (87) secured maximum spoils.

Racing Santander came from behind to secure a draw at Real Zaragoza.

Diego Milito (36) had put Real ahead, but David Aganzo fired home just after the hour.

Espanyol climbed out of the bottom three following a 1-1 draw with ten-man Alaves - who themselves remain one off the foot of the table.

Josu Sarriegi (12) had put Alaves ahead, only for Luis Garcia (14) to level just moments later.

Alaves were then forced to hang-on when Sarriegi was dismissed just after the hour.
