Gurpegi's spit accusation

Athletic Bilbao midfielder Carlos Gurpegi has accused Ivan Amaya of spitting at him.

Gurpegi claims the unsavoury incident took place at the end of Bilbao's 3-1 defeat at Getafe on Sunday.

The Basque ace endured a running battle with Amaya throughout the contest and refused to shake his opponent's hand at the final whistle.

In response to the snub, Gurpegi insists Amaya spat at him, although he did not name the culprit.

Witnesses to the incident pointed the finger at Amaya and the matter has left Gurpegi seething.

"An opponent insulted me by saying things that nobody has ever called me before," said Gurpegi.

"After the game he came up to me to make up and I refused to, so he spat on me.

"When they insult and spit on you it is very difficult to remain calm.

"It is something that has never happened to me before and I am very angry about it."
