Espanyol ace Ivan de la Pena faces surgery on his leg as he looks to continue his career.
The former Barcelona star has been struggling with the problem this season, restricting him to only six appearances in the first team.
De la Pena says he has no choice but to go under the knife, with the classy midfielder facing up to three months on the sidelines.
"We've tried everything to avoid surgery but it has been no good," said De la Pena.
"Going under the knife is the only remaining solution to see whether I'll be able to compete again."
