Juventus director general Beppe Marotta claims the club are closing on a deal for Giuseppe Rossi.
The Villarreal striker is hot property this summer, with a number of clubs reported to be monitoring his situation in Spain.
Premier League outfit Tottenham and reigning European champions Barcelona are also said to hold an interest in the Italy international.
It is, however, Juve who have edged ahead in the race to secure the 24-year-old's signature.
They have turned their attention to Rossi after seeing a move for Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero collapse.
Objectives
It is understood that Juve have put a cash-plus-player offer to Villarreal, with the Turin giants prepared to part with €25million (£22.1m) and Felipe Melo.
It remains to be seen whether an agreement will be reached, but Marotta believes progress is being made in the negotiations.
"We are working without haste, but are focused on many objectives," he told
tuttojuve.
"Rossi? We're getting there, it's true, but we are also tracking other players."
