Roma defender sent to the stands over unacceptable behaviour

Roma defender Christian Panucci faces a hefty fine after his behaviour prior to the clubs clash with Napoli in Serie A. Roma manager Luciano Spalletti decided to name the Italian international on the bench much to the anger of the 35-year-old. Due to the former Chelsea mans reaction Spalletti decided to force Panucci to watch the match from the stands.

Future

With his contract set to run out in June of this year the veteran has put himself in a precarious position. With question marks over his future Roma could punish the defender by sending him out on loan or transfer listing him. "Panucci had to start from the bench, but then he went in the stands because he didn't accept this decision," Roma official Luciano Prade explained to Rai TV. "We tried to put rules in the dressing room and we didn't like Panucci's gesture." Roma did not appear to miss their defender, who has featured 11 times in Serie A this season, as they eased past Napoli 3-0.
