Veteran keeper pens one-year contract
Sampdoria have completed the signing of veteran goalkeeper Matteo Guardalben on a one-year contract.
The 35-year-old shot-stopper is now set to join up with his new team-mates on Wednesday as preparations for the 2009/10 campaign intensify.
Guardalben has spent much of his career to date in the lower reaches of Italian football and spent last season with Serie B outfit Treviso.
He can, however, boast top-flight experience from spells at Parma, Hellas Verona, Piacenza and Palermo so should have no problem adapting to life back in Serie A.
Guardalben left Treviso after they suffered relegation out of the second tier last season, but later admitted that he 'would have liked to remain a player' for them.
Instead he has now secured a shock move to Samp, with the player himself admitting the deal came as 'a little unexpected.'
He will now compete for a starting berth at Stadio Luigi Ferraris alongside Luca Castellazzi and Vincenzo Fiorillo.
