Black Stars ace hoping to restart career
Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah has signed a one-year deal with Serie A newcomers Cesena.
The 29-year-old spent last season at Bologna, but played only two games before becoming part of the Ghana squad's memorable World Cup run to the quarter-finals in South Africa.
The Black Stars captain, who played just a handful of club matches over the last three seasons, was used as a substitute in South Africa and looked rusty at his home continent.
But the former Juventus performer has given himself the chance to earn regular football again by joining the recently promoted Italian club.
New start
"I am happy with the agreement with Cesena because they showed how much they wanted me to join them when we started negotiating," said the ex-Fernerbahce midfielder.
"It is a new start for me although it is still in Italy. They have a project which I am happy to be part of.
"I have met the management of Cesena and have assured them I will give it 100 per cent as I usually do. They can definitely count on a fit Stephen Appiah without a doubt."
The veteran Ghana ace was full of praise for Bologna for their magnanimity towards him after previously being clubless for nearly two years.
"I would like to say a big thank you to the management, players and supporters of Bologna for giving me a chance to get back into football after my long absence," added Appiah.
"It wasn't easy but they gave me a chance and although I didn't feature much for them, they allowed me to get back into the swing of things."
