Club official reveals announcement is imminent

Roma are expected to announce the appointment of Zdenek Zeman as their new coach by the end of this week. The Giallorossi are looking for a new boss after the departure of Spanish coach Luis Enrique at the beginning of May. In doing so they have turned to an old one - Zeman coached the club from 1997 to 1999. The 65-year-old, who confirmed on Wednesday he is in advanced talks with Roma over the position, is set to sign a one-year deal with the club. "We will soon make official our new coach," Roma's club administrator Claudio Fenucci told Corriere dello Sport. "Then we will begin to build the team that we hope will give great satisfaction to our fans this year."

Change

Roma endured a disappointing campaign under Luis Enrique, fading badly to finish outside of the European places in seventh spot. The appointment of Zeman represents a significant change of direction for the club. The Czech boss is more than 20 years older than his predecessor and vastly experienced. He is regarded as a cult figure in Italian football and has a reputation as an attacking coach, enjoying some success with Lazio in the mid-90s. After several years in the doldrums, Zeman returned to the fore with Lecce before guiding Pescara to Serie A last season.
