Alessandro Del Piero is a target for Sydney FC as they look to make him the club's "perfect marquee player".
The 37-year-old forward is a free agent after ending a 19-year association with Juventus and has been linked with clubs in the Middle East and the United States.
But Sydney FC appear determined to convince the former Italy international to play in Australia's A-League.
Chief executive Tony Pignata has revealed that Del Piero has already been contacted about the move.
Perfect
"We're going to go for it as hard as we can," Pignata told the
Sydney Morning Herald.
"The board is 100 per cent behind this. We believe he's the perfect marquee player.
"We've already made an approach to his management team and we're waiting to hear back.
"This is not a gimmick, it's deadly serious. To get a player of his stature would be huge and we know that."
Del Piero is the all-time record goalscorer for Juve, winning the UEFA Champions League with the club in 1996 as well as the World Cup with Italy a decade later.
