Real extend lead; Bayern lose again; Montpellier lead in France

Real Madrid have moved six points clear of Barcelona in Spain, while Bayern Munich have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Bundesliga. Montpellier are the new leaders in Ligue 1 as Paris Saint-Germain went down to Marseille on Sunday night. Bayern Munich's blip has seen them slip into third spot in Germany behind Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Monchengladbach. The SPL title race is hotting up with Celtic piling the pressure on Rangers, while AZ Alkmaar's lead in Holland has been trimmed by PSV Eindhoven.
Primera Liga
Saturday was Real's night in Spain's top flight after they got the better of city rivals Atletico before champions Barcelona suffered a 1-0 defeat to Getafe. Atletico took the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu, but it was one way traffic following Thibaut Courtois' sending off. Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as the home side ran out 4-1 winners. Barcelona are six points behind their arch-rivals after Juan Valera headed home the only goal of the game as Getafe inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Pep Guardiola's side. Racing Santander's miserable season is showing no signs of ending anytime soon after the league's basement boys suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Mallorca.
Serie A
Juventus maintained their one-point lead at the top of Serie A ahead of AC Milan and Udinese thanks to a 1-0 win over Lazio. Simone Pepe's 34th-minute goal settled the contest. Udinese led for 24 hours after getting the better of Roma 2-0 on Friday night while AC Milan maintained the pressure on the Old Lady with a 4-0 thumping of Chievo on Sunday. Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his 100th Serie A goal in the game. Former European champions Inter Milan made it back-to-back league wins for the first time this season following a 1-0 success at Siena.
Bundesliga
Borussia Dortmund are the new Bundesliga leaders, closely followed by Borussia Monchengladbach after Bayern Munich's 3-2 defeat to Mainz. Robert Lewandowski and Felipe Santana both netted for Dortmund on Saturday as they bagged a 2-0 win over Schalke while bottom club Augsburg secured their second win of the campaign after seeing off Wolfsburg. Bayern have now lost successive games after going down to a five-goal thriller to Mainz. Daniel van Buyten scored twice, but it was not enough to prevent the Bavarian giants suffering their fourth league defeat of the campaign.
Ligue 1
Montpellier moved to the top of Ligue 1 after snatching a late win at Sochaux. A late double from Olivier Giroud sealed a 3-1 win, completing his hat-trick in the progress. Paris Saint-Germain failed to close the gap on Sunday after going down 3-0 to Marseille. Lille stayed in third spot ahead of Rennes with a 2-0 triumph over Brest. Ajaccio are having a season to forget with Saturday's 3-1 defeat at St Etienne leaving them rock bottom with just one win and eight points from their 15 games.
Eredivisie
PSV Eindhoven moved to within three points of AZ Alkmaar at the top of the table thanks to a thumping 6-1 victory at home to Groningen. FC Twente lost ground on the pace-setters after being held to a goalless draw at Vitesse Arnhem while a strong second-half display from Ajax helped them claim a 3-0 victory at NEC Nijmegen.
SPL
Rangers' lead at the top of the SPL table is now down to four points after contrasting fortunes for the Old Firm over the weekend. While Neil Lennon's Celtic put St Mirren to the sword 5-0 at Parkhead on Saturday, Rangers slipped to defeat at Kilmarnock 24 hours later courtesy of Manuel Pascali's late winner. Third-placed Motherwell missed the chance to close on the leaders after being held by Dundee United while Inverness stay bottom after losing at Hearts.
Best of the rest
In Greece, Panathinaikos stayed one point clear of AEK Athens following a 3-1 home success over OFI Crete. AEK overcame Panetolikos on Saturday. Javi Garcia's goal gave Portuguese leaders Benfica a 1-0 win over Sporting while FC Porto survived a late scare against Braga to seal a 3-2 success. Galatasaray have closed the gap on Turkish leaders Fenerbahce to three points after seeing off Sivasspor. Fener were held to a goalless draw on Friday.
