Werder Bremen v Inter preview

Image: Benitez: Still under pressure

Inter Milan need a victory to keep alive hope of finishing top of Group A when they take on Werder Bremen.

Benitez hopes to earn top spot after the final whistle in Germany

Rafa Benitez's Inter Milan will aim to secure the victory that will provide hope of finishing top of Group A when they take on Werder Bremen. The reigning kings of Europe travel to Germany having already qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. But Tottenham, who visit FC Twente, currently lead the group and can wrap up top spot and, in theory, a more comfortable draw in the last 16 with a win. Inter are therefore hoping for a favour from Twente as well as a success over Thomas Schaaf's already-eliminated Bremen at the Weserstadion.

Disappointment

Schaaf has expressed his disappointment at the fact that his side, who have been horribly inconsistent in the Bundesliga this campaign, have already been knocked out. But he is determined to see Bremen go out on a high with a win against last season's Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia winners. Former Liverpool manager Benitez, of course, inherited his Italian Treble-winners from Jose Mourinho and he has come under pressure following some uninspiring performances. The Spaniard is therefore aware that he needs every advantage possible in Europe, including finishing above Tottenham, who lead the way on a better head-to-head record, and he has rated the importance of the meeting with Bremen as 10 out of 10.
Injury news
Bremen could feature Daniel Jensen and Marko Arnautovic after the duo both returned from injury in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg. However, Tim Borowski, Sebastien Boenisch, Naldo and Christian Vander remain sidelined through fitness problems. Claudio Pizarro and Mikael Silvestre also have a chance of featuring after overcoming injury, but Schaaf is keeping his cards close to his chest. Inter are expected to be without Dejan Stankovic after he suffered a thigh injury in the first half of Friday's meeting with Lazio. But Sulley Muntari returned from a calf injury and the midfielder could start against Bremen. Inter will be without Julio Cesar, Walter Samuel, Coutinho, Joel Obi, Maicon and Cristian Chivu due to injury, while Lucio, Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder have not travelled.
