Inter Milan have confirmed that Gian Piero Gasperini is to become the club's new head coach.
Leonardo to be replaced by former Genoa coach
Inter Milan have confirmed that Gian Piero Gasperini is to become the club's new head coach.
A number of high-profile names have been linked with the role since it emerged earlier this month that Leonardo was set to leave to become sporting director at Paris St Germain.
The final details of Gasperini's contract have yet to be completed but Inter have now announced that he is to become the club's fourth manager in little more than a year.
Jose Mourinho left the Giuseppe Meazza at the end of the Treble-winning 2009/10 campaign to take charge of Real Madrid and Inter failed to enjoy the same level of success under Rafa Benitez and then Leonardo.
A statement from Inter read: "It will be Gian Piero Gasperini to become Inter's new coach.
"The official announcement will be made once all the final bureaucratic formalities are completed.
"Once this is done, the date of Gasperini's unveiling will be given.
"Gasperini will sign a two-year contract."
Moratti satisfied
Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti, who is abroad on business, has welcomed Gasperini's selection.
Moratti said on the club's
official website: "I am fully satisfied with the choice.
"I wish Gasperini all the success that has taken Inter to become Club World champions."
Gasperini led Genoa to promotion from the second division in 2007 and qualification for the Europa League with a fifth-placed finish in Serie A in 2009.
He has been out of work since being sacked by Genoa in November.
