Anzhi Makhachkala have attempted to play down reports suggesting Samuel Eto'o could return to former employers Inter Milan on loan.
It has been claimed that Inter are looking to strike a short-term deal when the Russian season comes to a close.
That would allow Eto'o to return to Italy in the New Year and help the Nerazzurri in their efforts to salvage a season which has started slowly.
Anzhi have dashed any hope Inter had of reaching an agreement, though, by insisting that the Cameroon international will form part of their pre-season plans.
"It's impossible to imagine such a scenario, not even in your worst nightmare," Anzhi general director German Chistiakov said in quotes reported by
La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"At that time mentioned, Eto'o will be preparing for the season with Anzhi and he will do so with all of his professionalism."
Invention
Former Roma coach Luciano Spalletti, currently in charge of Anzhi's Russian Premier League rivals Zenit St Petersburg, laughed off the rumours.
"This story is just journalistic invention," Spalletti said.
"It would be difficult for such a move to be done and I don't think it could be done.
"It would also be an admission of an error by Inter.
"Signing Eto'o would mean that the club doesn't have faith in their current players."
Eto'o joined Anzhi over the summer in a £20million deal and has scored three goals in six appearances.
