Francesco Totti came on in the 86th minute and scored twice to seal a dramatic 3-2 win for Roma against Torino on Wednesday - emphatically staking his claim for a new contract

The 39-year-old striker has struggled for game time at the Stadio Olimpico but a haul of three goals from two games could convince the Giallorossi to give him one more year.

Andrea Belotti's penalty and Josef Martinez's late goal gave Torino hope they could triumph in the Eternal City, yet Totti's brace and Kostas Manolas' header earned Roma all three points.

Martinez wasted a huge chance early chance for Torino, the Venezuelan somehow blasting wide from a one-on-one with Wojciech Szczesny.

Torino hit the post through Belotti before the young Italy striker opened the scoring from the spot.

In the 35th minute Manolas' foul on Belotti allowed him to reach double figures for the season.

It took Roma a while to respond and it was not until the 65th minute that Manolas atoned for conceding the penalty by levelling the scores.

Diego Perotti's corner kick found the Greek defender, who shook off the attentions of Daniele Padelli to head home.

Torino had not turned up to roll over, though, and they promptly re-established their lead thanks to Martinez. Bruno Peres did the hard work with a pin-point cross that allowed his team-mate to notch.

Roma's response arrived with 10 minutes remaining and it was through a familiar source.

After his heroics off the bench at Atalanta, Totti replaced Seydou Keita before promptly turning Miralem Pjanic's free-kick beyond Padelli.

And with one minute remaining, he drove the Olimpico crowd wild by converting a penalty after Nikola Maksimovic handled Perotti's cross.
