Roma to discuss Ranieri future

Roma director Giampaolo Montali has revealed that Claudio Ranieri's position will be discussed overnight.

Board to decide on coach's fate following spectacular defeat

Roma director Giampaolo Montali has revealed that Claudio Ranieri's position as coach will be discussed overnight. The former Chelsea boss has fallen under ever-increasing pressure over recent weeks, with results conspiring against him. A 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday hardly helped his cause, while a weekend collapse in Roma's latest Serie A fixture has pushed him closer to the exits. The capital giants led a meeting with Genoa on Sunday 3-0 after 51 minutes, but somehow proceeded to concede four goals in a little over half-an-hour to lose 4-3. Such a spectacular defeat has fuelled calls for Ranieri to be relieved of his duties, and the Roma board are starting to take notice. Montali admits a meeting will be held on Sunday night during which the current state of the club and the direction in which they are heading will be evaluated.

Delicate

"It's a delicate moment," he told Sky Italia. "We need to take a moment to reflect before making any decisions. We have to pause and clear the mind. "We need to understand what the problems are, not decide on who is responsible. Once we have done that, we will make a decision on what to do next. "Everything will be done between tonight and tomorrow [Monday]. We don't have much time. "At the moment Claudio Ranieri is the coach of Roma and we must now decide how we will continue for the remainder of the season."
