Daniele De Rossi has refused to rule out the prospect of leaving Roma on a Bosman next summer, but he also stated his desire to remain in Italy.
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is a confirmed admirer of the 28-year-old, whose current contract at the Stadio Olimpico is due to expire at the end of the season.
Roma have insisted that they want De Rossi - who has spent his entire career with the Eternal City outfit - to remain and talks are ongoing.
De Rossi admits he wanted the situation finalised sooner, saying: "This is certainly a matter that should have been resolved earlier.
"Things have stalled right now and we are studying the matter, but we'll certainly find a solution one way or another that suits everyone.
"Could I leave on a Bosman? It depends on the contract and if we reach an agreement.
"I have never put pressure on Roma and I never will as that would affect my relationship with the club."
Abroad
De Rossi admits he would rather remain with Roma than anything else, seemingly ruling out an imminent move to England.
"I want to play in Italy for five more years, then I would consider playing my football outside of the peninsula," he added.
"I'm attracted by the idea of playing abroad. I'm thinking of Japan, China, America, it would be a good life experience.
"Another Italian club? I can't imagine that because I have always played for Roma."
Despite De Rossi's insistence he wants to stay in Italy with Roma, the likes of City and Real Madrid are likely to continue monitoring his situation.
