Morgan De Sanctis has signed a one-year contract extension at Roma, the Serie A club announced on Thursday.

The former Italy international's previous deal was set to expire at the end of this season.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper has been a regular in Rudi Garcia's side since joining the Eternal City outfit form Napoli in 2013.

A statement from Roma read: "Roma announces it has extended the sporting contract of Morgan De Sanctis until June 30, 2016."

De Sanctis could not hide his delight after putting pen to paper on the new deal.

"Today is an important day for me," he told Roma Radio. "I am very happy that Roma has given me this opportunity.

"I will remain at Roma until 2016 and to work for Roma gives me a lot of motivation but also a big sense of responsibility.

"At my age, you have to make decisions on a yearly basis and if I continue to hand (in) good performances then I can continue to play here.

"I would like to end my career in the best possible way.

"I want to give joy to our fans and to my coach."

De Sanctis has started in 11 league games for Roma this season.

Roma take on Sassuolo on Saturday in Serie A before hosting Manchester City in the Champions League next week.
