Roma skipper unfazed by Lazio striker's jibe
Francesco Totti has refused to become embroiled in a war of words with Lazio front-man Mauro Zarate.
The 22-year-old Argentinean recently remarked that Roma legend Totti was 'finished', adding: "He hasn't scored in about ten derbies."
Zarate spoke out after Lazio were beaten 1-0 by their local rivals in the Eternal City derby on 6th December.
Totti is not taking the bait, though, and has laughed off the jibes of his capital rival.
The Roma skipper, who has scored 240 goals during his time at Stadio Olimpico, insists he has no need to justify himself to Zarate and hopes his football will do the talking for him in 2010.
"Since it is Christmas and we should all try to be better people, I send 240 well wishes to Zarate," the 33-year-old playmaker wrote on his personal website.
"In 2010, I hope to get more goals and assists to become a record goalscorer."
Totti has spent his entire 17-year career with his home-town idols Roma, making more appearances and scoring more goals than anyone else in the club's history.
