AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi's season looks to be over as he has damaged cruciate knee ligaments.
It is expected that the veteran forward will be sidelined for up to six months as he will require surgery in order to aid his recovery.
The 37-year-old, who has been in fine form of late, suffered the injury during Milan's 3-1 victory over Palermo on Wednesday.
He underwent a series of medical tests on Thursday and scans have confirmed that he will need an operation in order to make a full recovery.

A statement from Milan read: "Filippo Inzaghi underwent an MRI today that showed a lesion to his anterior cruciate ligament associated to the external meniscus of his left knee.
"The player will need surgery."
Inzaghi has scored twice in five Serie A outings this season, while he has also been among the goals in the UEFA Champions League.
A brace against Real Madrid on 3rd November saw him become the record scorer in European competition, as he took his tally to 70.
He has also recently overtaken the legendary Marco van Basten in Milan's all-time scoring charts, with 125 goals to his name.
