Midfielder could miss facing former club at White Hart Lane

Injured AC Milan midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng is doubtful to face former side Tottenham on Wednesday, the Italian club has confirmed. Spurs host Milan at White Hart Lane in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night after securing a 1-0 victory at the San Siro last month. But an ankle problem sustained in Serie A action against Turin on Saturday means ex-Spurs man Boateng could sit out the crucial clash. "We will try to have him back," said Milan coach Massimilano Allegri, while chief executive Adriano Galliani said they were "worried" for the Ghanaian.

Casualty

The absence of Boateng, who spent two seasons with Spurs between 2007 and 2009, would strike a severe blow to Milan, with midfielders Andrea Pirlo and Massimo Ambrosini already on the casualty list. Gennaro Gattuso is also unavailable after his post-match clash with Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan in Milan earned him a suspension, while Mark van Bommel is ineligible. Milan will be desperate to turn the tables on Tottenham after going behind to the North Londoners in the first leg. And Rossoneri defender Thiago Silva is adamant a strong attacking display will be crucial on Wednesday night. "To win we need to attack," said Silva. "You can't only stay back and defend, you must always attack."
