Ignacio Lores Varela has completed his move to Palermo from Uruguayan outfit Defensor Sporting.
The 20-year-old put the finishing touches to the switch on Saturday and has now penned a five-year contract with the Serie A club.
Palermo have moved quickly to bring the youngster to Europe, with Varela having made just nine senior appearances for Sporting.
He only signed his first professional contract in 2009, but claims he is looking forward to facing the challenges that await him in Italy.

Speaking to Italian publication
MediaGol.it, he said: "I am happy to be a new Palermo player. It's a great thrill for me.
"I hope to do well in Sicily. I am honoured to begin this new experience. "
He added: "For me, Palermo is a great team.
"We are now an established team in the Italian league. I have heard many good things about the club and the team, and it is an honour for me to be here."
