Fiorentina stand firm over striker

Fiorentina have insisted Adrian Mutu is not available for transfer despite being excluded from the squad for his behaviour last week. The Romanian striker walked out of training, prompting a furious reaction from the club and fuelling speculation that he could be set to leave this month. Fiorentina blasted his 'lack of respect' and made it clear they intended to sue Mutu for breach of contract. However, Viola owner Andrea Della Valle is not prepared to simply let the former Chelsea man go and has taken him 'off the market'. "The club has stuck by him for over a year and he is now out of the squad for disgraceful behaviour towards his team-mates," Della Valle told Sky Italia. "He is out of the team and off-market. It is not a punishment, but he had to respect his team-mates. "Now we will pass to legal action against him and his agent (Giovanni Becali) because we were offended by false allegations."

Interest

Juventus and Cesena have made no secret of their admiration for Mutu but both clubs admit it will now be difficult to prise him away during the current transfer window. Juve sporting director Giuseppe Marotta said: "We would be interested in Mutu, but only if Fiorentina put him on the market." Cesena sporting director Lorenzo Minotti also commented: "The words of Della Valle displease me but we still like him and would be keen to have a great player like Mutu at Cesena. "If it is not possible we'll look elsewhere."
