Fiorentina have signed attacking midfielder Octavio on a season-long loan from Botafogo, the Italian club have announced.

The Brazilian arrived in Florence on Friday morning and has now completed his switch which also gives the Viola an option to buy the player at the end of his loan spell.

"ACF Fiorentina announces that it has purchased, on a temporary basis with a right of redemption, the rights to the player Octavio Merlo Manteca from Botafogo de Futebol and Regatas," read a statement on Fiorentina's official website.

The 20-year-old began the 2013-14 season at Botafogo but struggled to break into the first team and was sent on loan to Brazilian side ABC earlier this year.

Octavio is under contract with Botafogo until December 2015.

Fiorentina, coached by Vincenzo Montella, finished fourth in Serie A and will compete in the Europa League in the 2014-15 campaign.
