Cagliari have sacked coach Roberto Donadoni just two weeks before the start of the new Serie A season.

Ficcadenti expected to be appointed as replacement on Tuesday

Cagliari have sacked coach Roberto Donadoni just two weeks before the start of the new Serie A season. Former Italian national team boss Donadoni had only been in charge at Cagliari for nine months and led the club to a 14th-placed finish last term. However, the 47-year-old has been relieved of his duties and Cagliari now hope to appointment a replacement in the coming days. A club statement read: "Cagliari have dismissed coach Roberto Donadoni and his staff, comprising Luca Gotti, Giovanni Andreini and Paolo De Toffol. "Cagliari would like to thank them for the work they did and wish them the best of luck in their future careers." The decision comes shortly after a public fall-out with club president Massimo Cellino, and the departure of popular striker David Suazo to league rivals Catania. According to reports in Italy, former Cesena coach Massimo Ficcadenti is tipped be unveiled as Donadoni's successor on Tuesday.
