Sicilian side hand chance to Roma's former caretaker boss
Vincenzo Montella has been appointed the new coach of Catania.
The Serie A side confirmed on Thursday that the former Italy striker has taken the job on a two-year deal.
The 36-year-old takes over the reins from Diego Simeone, who left the club by mutual consent last week.
This is Montella's first permanent managerial position after being named Roma's caretaker boss in February.
He guided Roma to a sixth-placed finish in Serie A but was not offered a contract extension to remain at the Stadio Olimpico, with former Spain international Luis Enrique set to be handed the job.
Montella, who was previously youth-team coach at Roma, will be officially unveiled by Catania at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
The Sicilian club ended the season in 13th place, 10 points clear of the relegation zone having lost just two of their last 10 league games.
