Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach ended 2015 in third and fourth respectively after both sides picked up wins on Sunday.

Hertha Berlin, who last enjoyed such a lofty position at the midway stage of the 2008/09 season, eased past Mainz 2-0 thanks to goals from Vladimir Darida and Salomon Kalou.

Vedad Ibisevic went close to adding a third for the Old Lady, who will fancy their chances of qualifying for Europe next season having already put 32 points in the bank.

Borussia Monchengladbach flexed their muscles in the final Bundesliga fixture of the year, coming from behind - and with 10 men - to beat promoted Darmstadt 3-2.

Marcel Heller gave the visitors the lead and a red card to Granit Xhaka signalled trouble for the Foals.

However, Lars Stindl and Havard Nordtveit turned things around before Sandro Wagner levelled matters.
