No deal for Galaxy ace
Landon Donovan has expressed his disappointment at not being able to seal a permanent move to Bayern Munich.
In a similar move to team-mate David Beckham, who joined AC Milan in January, Donovan spent the MLS off-season in Europe as he joined Bayern.
However, he never started a game in Germany and failed to make a big enough impact for Bayern to match his asking price.
"I have to thank all the players as well as Jurgen (Klinsmann, Bayern coach) and Mr Hoeness [Uli, general manager] after working with them at Bayern," he told
Die Welt
"I have tried to make it here, but I did not make an impact.
"In the end it was also a decision about money - money MLS wanted and Bayern was not prepared to pay."
Title tilt
Donovan thinks Bayern still have a chance to win the Bundesliga.
"I think they will decide which team will win the title," he added.
Klinsmann also thinks Bayern are now in prime position for a title tilt after going second and just four points behind leaders Hertha Berlin.
"Of course, looking at the table now is much easier than it was before, but there is still a lot of work left for the upcoming weeks," Klinsmann told
Rheinische Post.
"We have the obligation to win the Bundesliga and guarantee us a place in the UEFA Champions League. Hertha Berlin is on top now, they have to be stopped and we will not give in before we have achieved that. We had been careless.
"We are not where we want to finish the campaign in the end."
